Sometimes it is difficult to know what a general contractor charges for the work done managing trades and coordinating a project. Hiring a general contractor definitely will cost you more than being the general yourself (generally it is a percentage of the whole cost of the project) but rest assured that a general contractor will save you time, headaches, and perhaps money in the long run. The fee that you pay to the general contractor covers his or her time, profit and overhead for running the job.
How would you feel about paying an additional 15% to hire a general contractor for a renovation? Do you think it is money well spent or would you rather coordinate the job yourself?
